From Amchit, A New Model For Local Development
The Michel Issa Foundation for Local Development and the Municipality of Amchit have launched a waste management initiative as part of a long-term vision for sustainable local development.

The Michel Issa Foundation for Local Development is advancing a long-term vision for Amchit; one that protects its identity, strengthens its community, and turns local action into lasting progress.
As an important step, MIF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Municipality of Amchit to launch a comprehensive waste-management initiative built around clear responsibilities, measurable outcomes, and shared accountability.
Led by Dr. Toni M. Issa, President of MIF, the initiative reflects a broader ambition for the town: to address immediate community needs while creating an institutional model that can support future environmental, cultural and development projects.
“Our vision for Amchit is broader than any single project. We are building a practical and measurable model of cooperation that can improve daily life today and support the town’s development for years to come,” Dr. Issa said.
The project brings together MIF, the Municipality, local institutions, residents, and volunteers within a structured implementation framework. Its first phase will strengthen waste collection and management, followed by sorting at source and the development of a dedicated sorting facility.
The initiative grew from the commitment of Amchit’s community, including young residents who helped secure collection vehicles and local partners who contributed land and resources. MIF joined these efforts by providing essential infrastructure, technical expertise and a governance mechanism to guide implementation.
For MIF, environmental action is part of a wider vision for Amchit: preserving the character of the town, improving quality of life, reinforcing local participation, and creating the conditions for sustainable social and economic progress.
Rooted in the Issa family’s connection to Amchit, this initiative demonstrates how family-led stewardship can bring institutions and communities together around a shared purpose.
Starting in Amchit, MIF is building a model of local development designed to endure, and to inspire wider action.
